Whatsapp Launches Mac And Windows Desktop Apps

Whatsapp has launched a desktop client for Windows and Mac to complement its mobile app and web messaging service as announced earlier today.

Just like the web version, the desktop apps sync with a WhatsApp user’s account on their mobile device, once they’ve downloaded them and scanned a QR code from inside Settings > WhatsApp Web on the mobile app.

Unfortunately, just like the web app, the user’s phone will have to be online for the desktop app to work unlike its competitors Line and Telegram who have made each of their platforms independent of the mobile phone. On any other messaging app, users can use the desktop, web or any other version even if their phones are switched off.

According to Whatsapp, it’s main reason for launching a desktop app was so the apps could have “support for native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts, and more”.

To download the app, visit https://www.whatsapp.com/download from your desktop browser.
