Rio Olympics: Senate To Probe Sports Minister

The Nigerian Senate has said it will probe Sports Minister Solomon Dalung and the National Olympics Committee over their contribution to Nigeria’s failures in the concluded Rio Olympics.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports Obinna Ogba said factors ranging from logistics and funding, late arrival of kits, the national anthem fracas at the Olympics all led to this investigation.

Ogba also frowned at the U-23 football team for accepting cash donation from a Japanese philanthropist Dr Katsuya Takasu.

He said “I don’t think it was nice for our country to accept such money given the happenings around the world now.”

While our ministers sit in their mansions, they also begrudge the fringe benefit that fell on the under-paid and under-appreciated football team who gave Nigeria it’s only medal.
